Many foods are marketed as “healthy” to consumers, but what about the amount of sugar that is in each product?

Antonio R. Estrada, a photographer, CrossFit enthusiast and sports nutritionist is aiming to show consumers products marketed as healthy, in their true light, portraying the amount of sugar contained in many products that people consume on a daily basis.

Estrada explains that his idea is simple, to show consumers the amounts of sugar in products in the same way that industries show their products, with great lighting, packaging and visual effects. By putting the amount of sugar next to each product, consumers visualize the amount of sugar in an easy to see format.

He hopes that through this artistic way of portraying these products, consumers will share his photos (with no alterations) on their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, personal blogs and or wherever they want on the internet, to portray the true ingredients and help consumers choose wisely.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends added or “free” sugars found in foods by manufacturers be reduced to less than 10% of total caloric intake for adults and children alike.

Informing consumers of healthy alternatives and showing the truth behind the sugars in the foods we consume daily may help consumers see the healthy choice as the easy choice and deter chronic health risks.

Many of the products are from Mexico, as is the artists Estrada, but some translate to U.S. foods like a can of Coca-Cola, Activia yogurt, Heinz ketchup, 7 up soda, Redbull and more.
