On the morning of October 29, 2012 cyclists gathered for a 20 mile ride to honor Monica Caban, a local triathelete, who was seriously injured after being hit by a car, while riding her bike. Although, San Antonio passed a Safe Passing Ordinance in 2010, 10 fatal bike accidents occurred during that time, and the law had only been enforced six times. The Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) says that despite the increase in people biking, change has been slow for the city of San Antonio.
