Three cities in Louisiana and three in North Carolina rank in the Top-10 most overweight U.S. cities, according to a study by RentApplication.com using Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data.
The study determined the top 10 most overweight cities (with a population of at least 50,000 people) in the United States. The study noted that overweight or obese people spend 42% more on healthcare each year, for issues associated with overweight and obesity, like heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. This amounts to $147 billion annually with childhood obesity allotting for over $14 billion.
In the Latino population, 42% of Latino adults are classified as obese. Latino children are also plagued by obesity, as 22.4% ages 2-19 are obese.
All but one city in the top 10 are located in the southern U.S.

#3 Hammond, La. — 40.2% (4.17% Latino)
#4 Saginaw, Mich. — 39.7% (14.48% Latino)
#5 Roanoke Rapids, N.C. — 39.5% (2.99% Latino)
#6 Houma, La. — 39.4% (5.01% Latino)
#7 Pine Bluff, Ark. — 39.2% (1.4% Latino)
#8 Rocky Mount, N.C. — 39.2% (3.3% Latino)
#9 Lumberton, N.C. — 39% (11.01% Latino)
#10 Huntington, W.Va. — 39% (1.21% Latino)
McAllen, Texas (75%) Latino, had the state’s highest rate of overweight people (36.7%).
