A year after launching the Power Up for 30 campaign in 2013, Georgia Shape continues to offer schools the opportunity to commit to bringing an additional 30 minutes of physical activity to students throughout the day.

According to a 2012 Georgia Latino Health Report, less than half of Latino middle school students (42%) met physical activity recommendations.

Therefore, to keep kids active and to keep the Power Up for 30 movement strong, Georgia Shape, in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Department of Public, is offering a free one-day training program to teams of three representatives per school. They are also encouraging schools to sign a pledge to offer at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day.

As of September 2014, 347 elementary schools had signed the pledge and leaders from 178 elementary schools had completed the training. So far, the campaign has resulted in nearly 102,000 kids being impacted by the 30 minutes of added physical activity. According to Georgia Shape, 20 training sessions are already planned out for the 2014-2015 school year and at least 200 schools are expected to be trained this year.

To participate in the free training, all schools have to do is:

1. sign a pledge committing to providing students with an additional 30 minutes of activity/day;

2. take an on-line survey; and

3. look for a Georgia Shape training offered in their area.

At the training, school representatives will be taught activities to keep their students active and about the latest research findings on physical activity and learning.
