LiveHealthy Fairfax will soon be hosting a Safe Routes to School workshop.
The event is open to transportation professionals, planning, public works, public safety, public health, parks and recreation; elected and appointed officials; school representatives (officials and parents); concerned citizens and local advocates.

Description: The Safe Routes to School Workshop will address transportation issues around a school setting, including the creation of safe environments for all students, whether they walk, cycle or arrive by bus or car.
Attendees will participate in a walking audit and discuss ideas for improving walkability and encouraging non-motorized transportation for school age children. They will also learn how walking or biking to school can provide increased health benefits for students and enhance learning and academic performance.
The workshop facilitator will be Mark Fenton, an expert on Safe Routes to School initiatives and walkable communities. Mark is a national public health, planning and transportation consultant.
Comfortable clothing and walking shoes are encouraged.
