Prevention Insitute developed a set of metrics-in line with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundations Culture of Health metrics-to guide stakeholders in measuring determinants of health in order to understand health behaviors, how health disparities are produced, and how health equity can be achieved.

Health behaviors and exposures, and subsequent disparities in health are influenced by determinants of health-the social, environmental, and economic environment-which is created by public and private institutions practices and policies. Altering determinants of health support health equity.

Prevention Institute provides an example of various sectors of society that have a role in altering determinants of health, as well as  policy or investments implications for a select number of metrics.

It is critical to understand the determinants of health in your community in order to make healthy changes and support health equity for all.
