When it comes to health, what is real and what is fake? Sometimes it's hard to tell. Health fraud scams refer to products that claim to prevent, treat, or cure diseases, but are not proven safe and effective for those uses. These scams waste money and can lead to delays in getting proper diagnosis and treatment. They can also cause serious or even fatal injuries. Let’s use #SaludTues on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, to tweet in English and Spanish about the latest strategies to help Latinos and all people avoid health scams and get access to truly beneficial health care! Drowning is the No. 2 cause of death for toddlers. Many others suffer submersion injuries that may cause major brain injuries, especially among minority children. Why is this? Many Latino and other minority children can't swim and lack access to swimming lessons and pools, which can cause a fear of water. This, in turn, can increase their risk of drowning and lessen their chances of participating in beneficial physical activity in water, from swimming to underwater handstands to water skiing and tubing. Latino children need access to places to learn to swim, which also has been proven to increase children’s confidence, motor skills, and academic achievement. Let's use #SaludTues on June 20, 2017, to tweet about how great swimming is and how to improve Latino kid’s access ...

Newsflash: Men and women are different. Of course, men don't have to go through what many women go through in reproductive health, such as pregnancy, giving birth, and other issues. But men do fare worse in other heath conditions. Men die at higher rates than women for 8 of the 10 top causes of death. Men die at younger ages than women, and they are more likely to develop chronic diseases throughout their lifetimes, Livestrong.com reports. Among Latino men, the numbers are even starker. Latino men have lifespans that are 5 years shorter than Latinas. They are more likely to have undiagnosed mental health issues. For the National Men’s Health Month in June, let’s use #SaludTues to tweet about Latino men's health issues, solutions, and resources on June 6, 2017. ...

We shouldn’t have to shake up our daily routines to get the mental and physical benefits of physical activity. But for Latino families, physical activity often isn't a daily norm. In fact, Latino-majority schools provide less time for recess and P.E., and Latino neighborhoods have fewer places to walk and play, Salud America! research shows. Let's use #SaludTues on May 23, 2017, to tweet about partnerships, programs, policy changes, and infrastructure that can help Latinos and everyone move more and sit less in the places where we live, learn, work, play, pray, and retire.
