The Youth Activism Project, a youth-driven leadership development program, believes that “kids should be seen and heard!”

Because 26% of the U.S. population is under the age of 18, the Youth Activism Project is working to empower youth across the world to be change agents for their community.

Since 1992 they have worked to:

  • Promote youth civic engagement
  • Provide free advice via email and their toll-free hotline
  • Train adults on how to work with young people
  • Convince community, educational and government leader to engage young people in meaningful roles
  • Share best practices and strategies for lasting change
  • Serve as a network for like-minded individuals

Check out their youth strategies page to learn more about the first steps in change, ways to find funding, and more about 100 youth advocacy groups.

Visit their publications page to access free e-books like Girls Gone Activist, Knock-Your-Socks-Off! Training Teens to Be Successful Activists, and Youth! The 26% Solution.

In one of the Youth Activism Project’s more recent publications, Catalyst! Successful Strategies to Empower Young Advocates, stories about successful youth advocacy groups like Youth Empowered Solutions (YES), who worked to bring healthy changes to their cafeteria, and Literacy for Environmental Justice who worked to create an incentive program for stores that would reserve at least 10 percent of shelf space for healthy foods.
