Apply now for the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) Hispanic Leadership Development Fellowship!
The fellowship program is a paid, 9-month, in-person leadership opportunity to prepare for career opportunities in public health agencies and increase awareness and competency in health equity knowledge and practice, including infection control.
Each fellow is paired with a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) agency in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area from Sept. 1, 2024, to May 30, 2025.
“We are dedicated to increasing the representation of Hispanics in key executive leadership positions,” said Dr. Elena Rios, NHMA President and CEO.
Applications are due April 1, 2024.
Components of NHMA’s Hispanic Leadership Development Fellowship
Fellowship participants will join virtual and experiential learning activities throughout the 9-month program, with the support of the NHMA staff, NHMA mentors, and host site mentors.
Participants also may have the opportunity to present their work and final projects at their host site and to NHMA and HHS leadership.
Over the program, participants will get a $52,500 salary for 40 hours of work per week. Health insurance is provided for the fellowship duration.
NHMA will cover relocation travel costs associated with:
- One round trip to and from the Washington, D.C. area.
- Up to $575 and incidentals associated with one day of travel to and from D.C. area.
Fellows are responsible for securing housing by the fellowship start date.
Eligibility for NHMA’s Hispanic Leadership Development Fellowship
NHMA Leadership Development Fellowship participants must be a current master’s-degree-level student or have a graduation date from a master’s program within 2 years.
Those interested in applying must be eligible to work in the United States and be able to relocate to Washington, D.C.
Fellows also must be NHMA members.

- Week of June 3, 2024 – Virtual Orientation Welcome Kickoff
- Sept. 1, 2024 – Fellows first day in Washington, D.C.
- Sept. 6, 2024 – In-person Orientation
- Sept. 9, 2024 – Fellows tentative host site start date
