Walking is known for it's healthy benefits. The American Heart Association has stated that walking helps reduce cancer and disease while increasing mental health and helping prevent obesity. Latino students need more activity in their day to help prevent cardiovascular disease and obesity. Allowing students to walk while learning is a healthy alternative to the average school day of sitting 90 percent of the time. Many people have heard the phrase, "You need to drink more water." But what if you heard a talking water fountain say that to you? Drink UP, is a collaboration that is working with the Partnership for a Healthier America to encourage everyone to drink more water. Using talking water fountains, and sharing videos online about how everyone should "drink up", they hope to encourage more people to simply drink more water. Every kid in a park brings a culture of health



Inspiring every child to get outdoors and be active, is the new initiative, "Every Kid in a Park" program. This program is an Administration-wide effort in partnership with the Department of the Interior, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Education, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Offering kids free passes, the program's efforts are on removing barriers for youth from underserved communities to get to their parks, public lands and waters. “Bike to the Ballgame” supports an active city culture



The Pirates will be testing out their new 'Bike to Ballgame' on September 15th, 2105, offering areas for 200 bikes and a first-ever free bike valet service within the stadium. After noticing all the work Bike Pittsburg was doing in promoting a healthy biking culture in the city. A member the Pittsburg Pirates staff wanted to encourage the community to bike to the ballgame. Street connectivity and walkability are two built environment factors that may assist in physical activity within neighborhoods. Miami Telehealth program works on preventing childhood obesity



Miami, a highly Latino populated city (65.6% Latino) is also struggling with obesity for the many immigrant families that live in low-income areas. In fact according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 67.4% of the adult population of the county is overweight or obese. For 23 years, a pediatric mobile health clinic supported by Children's Health fund and Miami Miller School of Medicine has been providing comprehensive medical care to low-income children. Push for Sugary Drink Ban for Minors in NYC



A new bill in New York City (NYC) is being proposed for a ban against sugary beverages 16 oz or larger for minors. The ban primarily geared for kids, however, would also allow the state Department of health to phrase warning labels on foods and beverages that contain about 40 grams of sugar for all consumers. Assemblyman Matthew Titone is trying to bring support to the legislation.
