#BigGive2019 Brings San Antonio Nonprofits Together!

On Thursday, March 28, 2019, for the first time ever, Salud America! at UT Health San Antonio will join dozens of nonprofits in raising funds for the health and well being of kids and families in our community!

This is the first time in Salud America! at UT Health San Antonio’s 12-year history that we’re partnering with local nonprofits for the #BigGive2019.

What’s the #BigGive 2019?

The the #BigGive2019 is a 1-day online event expected to bring out thousands of partners in support of local initiatives that have a direct impact on people in San Antonio, Bexar County, and surrounding communities.

Why We’re Excited to Join the #BigGive2019

This is our chance for us to showcase the healthy changes happening in San Antonio.

Here are just a few examples of Salud America! Salud Heroes who doing incredible work to promite health equity in the local community:

“Roll Models” Monthly Bike Ride Program Gets San Antonio Kids on Bikes, with Mentors. Dante Jones started a monthly bike ride and afterschool program that provides mentorship and valuable leadership skills to youth.

Local 5th-Grader, Teacher Get a Water Bottle Fountain for Clean Water for Students. Cathy Lopez and her then-student Praxina Guerra worked together to get a water bottle filling station for their school. They raised funds and made it happen.

Nurses Visit Homes Help First-Time Moms Create Healthy Kids, Families. Sylvia Lopez is  a nurse with the South Texas branch of the Nurse Family Partnership. She has helped many expectant mothers from low-income families gain the confidence and skills needed to successfully navigate through motherhood.

Why Health Equity Matters?

Each and every day our team works to share the latest research, news, stories and examples of sustainable policy changes working to create healthier, more equitable communities.

Equity is giving every child a fair shot at good health.

In 2017-2018, Salud America! at UT Health San Antonio celebrated the following wins:

  • contributed to 275 policy wins, with 179 (65%) of those addressing Latino childhood health.
  • created healthier school environments through our action packs.
  • improved access to healthy food and helped get safer streets through our national comment campaigns.

Most importantly our advocacy work has served as a catalyst to promote health equity for all.

Today we invite you to celebrate the #BigGive2019 with us on Thursday, March 28, 2019!

One day before, on March 27, Salud America!‘s staff will be sharing more about this on social media, during the campaign’s kick-off event.

Whether you are able to give $15, $50 or $100, your support makes a difference in the lives of children and families all across San Antonio.
