Are you up for a challenge?
If you’re a translational science student or community member working on research in San Antonio, you are invited to the 2026 Virtual T1-T4 in 3 (Minutes) Challenge.
The challenge — hosted by the Institute for Integration of Medicine & Science (IIMS) and the Office of Research Education & Mentoring, and Community Engagement at UT Health San Antonio — invites presenters to share their research in 3 minutes and 1 slide to a live audience of community members, students, and faculty.
This free online event is from 9-10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026.
Challenge participants can be students/trainees in any translational science program at UT Health San Antonio.
Community members who are part of a community-academic partnership who have received IIMS funding to conduct a community-engaged research project (i.e., CE Small Project Grants) are also eligible.
Presenters must register for the event by 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2026.
T1-T4 in 3 (Minutes) Challenge Presentation Guidelines
Along with the 3-minute presentation time, presentations must be made with language and concepts that are compelling and easy to understand.
“This virtual challenge highlights multidisciplinary research projects that fall within the spectrum of translational science,” according to IIMS.
Eligibility includes:
- Category 1: Community members who have partnered with a UT Health San Antonio investigator on a community-engaged health research project.
- Category 2: UT Health San Antonio Translational Science Students, K12 Scholars, and T32 Trainees
Winners will receive a $500 travel award to attend a professional conference or training.
“Take part in this competition to demonstrate your mastery of research communication skills, an essential skill required in all areas of the field,” according to the IIMS.
T1-T4 in 3 (Minutes) Challenge Presentation Rules
For the presentation, a single static PowerPoint slide is permitted with no slide transitions or animations.
Only one presenter per submission is allowed.
All presentations must be live. Prerecorded presentations will not be accepted.
Additionally, reading notes will result in immediate disqualification and presentations are to be spoken (e.g., no poems, songs).
No additional electronic media or additional props are allowed.

“Win or lose, participating in this competition is a fantastic opportunity to share your research project with community members and investigators, boost your presentation confidence, and learn about other research projects,” the IIMS states.
