We’re excited to announce that two San Antonio-based organizations, Salud America! and The Rivard Report, are partnering to highlight challenges and solutions to Latino health and obesity.Rivard ST (1)

The Rivard Report is a non-profit, non-partisan online news source in San Antonio that tackles city issues and spotlights innovative solutions. Salud America! is a national Latino childhood obesity prevention network based at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, the team behind the SaludToday social media campaign.

For the partnership, Salud America! will make monthly article contributions to The Rivard Report on new ways to address the rising epidemic of obesity plaguing San Antonio.

San Antonio is a historic, culturally rich, and diverse (63.2% Latino) city, but it also is currently ranked 8th in the nation for obesity.

Obesity leads to numerous challenges that the city must face, such as increased rates of diabetes and soaring healthcare costs, as well as other indirect costs to society. Unfortunately, these challenges disproportionately burden residents based on race/ethnicity, income, education, and geographic location.

Salud America! offers numerous innovative solutions with creative “non-traditional” partners to start and support community-wide healthy changes, from research and resources to written and filmed role model stories of the step-by-step process people took to develop and implement those healthy changes.
