The month of June is recognized as Men’s Health Month.

It’s a time to educate, start conversations, and share resources on men’s health.

This year’s theme is “Partners in Care: Advancing Men’s Health Through Connection, Education, & Advocacy Across the Lifespan — for Better Lifespans,” according to the Men’s Health Network.

“Health behaviors, access to care, and long-term outcomes are shaped by relationships with partners, families, caregivers, friends, and communities,” Men’s Health Network states. “When men are supported through shared advocacy, education, empathy, and connection, outcomes improve not only for men, but for everyone connected to them.”

Let’s look into resources you can find and share with others during Men’s Health Month.

1. Men’s Health Network

Through the Men’s Health Network, folks can find resources on topics including

The networks’ mission includes closing the Lifespan Gender Gap, that statistic that finds men die an average of 6 years earlier than women, often from preventable or manageable diseases.

Men can also download The Gap Guide.

The Gap Guide is a free resource that features a list of ways men can live healthier lives and draws attention to the health issues that are more prominent in men like heart disease, lung cancer, prostate cancer, and more.

Webpages on specific health topics including cancer, cardiovascular health, chronic disease management, and other issues are available to browse.

Ways to get involved, take action, and stay informed are available through the Men’s Health Network website.

“We believe in giving men the tools, knowledge, and support they need to live longer, healthier lives,” according to the Men’s Health Network.

2. Society for Public Health Education

Through the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE), people can access the Focus Area Fact File on men’s health, which highlights key issues men face when it comes to health.

“SOPHE calls on health educators to advance…programming and support further research into the systemic and behavioral drivers of men’s health [differences].” the SOPHE states.

The SOPHE also provides information  and tips on the importance of healthy eating and physical activity.

“Eating a healthy diet and getting exercise are two of the most important actions for healthy living,” according to SOPHE.

Men can access research journals on health education and behavior and health promotion practice.

Resources on cancer, chronic conditions, nutrition, and other health topics are available through SOPHE.

3. Lupus Foundation of America

The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) states that 1 in 10 people living with lupus is male.

In fact, men are often diagnosed with lupus later because symptoms are often overlooked in male patients.

Because of this, the LFA provides resources like virtual support groups for men with Lupus and webinars where participants can hear from medical experts and guest speakers.

Podcast episodes that focus on men’s health and lupus and personal stories can also be found through the LFA’s website.

“We are committed to making sure every person living with lupus has the resources, support, and community they need. If you are a man living with lupus, here is where to start,” according to the LFA.

4. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that heart disease is the leading cause of death for men in the US.

The term heart disease encompasses many types of conditions such as heart attack, coronary heart disease, heart arrhythmias, and more.

The CDC has a dedicated webpage for information on symptoms, risk factors, and ways to reduce the risk of heart disease.

Million Hearts, a national initiative co-led by the CDC and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, provides support and resources on cardiovascular diseases.

Fact sheets, action guides, recipes, and other helpful tools can be found through the Million Hearts website.
