Latinos face a heavy cancer burden.
Driven by issues with language, finances, transportation, and more, Latinos are often diagnosed with cancer when survival chances are lower and costs higher.
To address Latino cancer and inspire hope, Salud America! created the “Nuestras Voces” campaign to give Latino cancer survivors a platform to share their stories.
As part of the campaign, Latino cancer survivors can write and submit their own stories to publish on our website in English or Spanish.
“When Latino cancer survivors tell their stories, they can help future cancer survivors who go through what they went through,” said Dr. Amelie G. Ramirez, leader of Salud America! and the Institute for Health Promotion Research at UT Health San Antonio.
“Sharing can also help survivors heal the physical and invisible scars left by cancer.”
How to Add Your Story to Nuestras Voces
Fill out our English form or our Spanish form.
The form asks for your contact information, cancer type, your story, and a few photos to accompany your story. You can share your story in as few as 200 words or as many as 600 words – no matter the length, your story can provide hope to others.
Once submitted, the Salud America! team will publish your story on our website, salud-america.org, and send you the published link via email.
Arnoldo Rodríguez: The Double Mirror of September
Arnoldo Rodríguez is far too familiar with being diagnosed with cancer.
However, it is a status that doesn’t define him but motivates him to help his South Texas Latino community find bilingual resources and treatments that work for their cancer type.
In the wake of Lymphoma Awareness Month and Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Arnoldo reflects on the significance the month of September holds for him and what it’s like to have one foot on the pedal of each cancer type.
